Mr. George (George Jenkins) opened the first Publix Food Store on Sept 6, 1930. Mr. George came to Florida with hopes of making his fortune at the age of 17. Mr. George Jenkins found a job in a Piggly Wiggly grocery store as a stock clerk.

After a couple of months, Mr. George was promoted to manager of the Piggly Wiggly grocery store in St. Petersburg. In 1930 he resigned from Piggly Wiggly stores to start his grocery store.

After opening his first store, called Publix Food Store on Sep 6, 1930, in Winter Haven. Mr. George opened his second Publix store in 1935 across town. In November 1940 Mr. George closed both stores to open his dream store.

On Nov. 8, 1940, he opened Publix Super Markets and a food palace of glass, stucco, and marble. This Publix store innovated such as fluorescent lighting, air conditioning, frozen food cases, piped-in music, and electric eye doors. In 1945, Mr. George acquire 19 All-American stores from the Lakeland Grocery Co and a warehouse.

Publix Passport headquarters & 809 main stores are in Lakeland, Florida. Passport Publix has also 46 stores in Tennessee, 15 in Virginia, North Carolina 46, South Carolina 63, Alabama 77, and Georgia 188 and so many franchises. Service Animal Policy

Publix Oasis permits service animals in the areas of its premises that are open to the public.

A service animal is a dog or miniature horse that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks to assist an individual with a disability. Dogs, miniature horses, or other animals that provide only emotional support, comfort, or companionship are not considered service animals.*

A service animal must be under the control of its handler. A service animal must have a harness and leash. Or other tethers unless the handler is either unable to use the same because of a disability. Or the use of the same would interfere with the service animal’s safe, effective performance of work or tasks.

In such a case, the service animal must otherwise be under the handler’s control, such as through voice commands, signals, or other effective means.*

Animals that are not service animals will be asked to leave the premises. Service animals that are out of control, pose a threat to health or safety, or are not housebroken will also be asked to leave the premises.

The individual whose animal is asked to leave the premises may continue to shop at the store without the animal. Publix org will gladly provide personal shopping assistance to such individuals upon request.

All service animals are prohibited from being carried in a shopping cart (even on a mat), or wheelchair basket attachments.
